About the author

Hello, my name is Deane Saunders. I'm also known on the internet to some as Rexx Magnus (namely in various newsgroups on usenet).

I first became interested in the runes after I began going to medieval re-enactment events; people dress up in medieval clothes and put on demonstrations such as battles and craft skills. I'd learnt some medieval music and began taking my flute to these events in order to play music, but after several months I wished for something else to branch out into.

A friend of mine had started doing tarot readings, and seeing that she did quite well out of it, I decided to have a go with the runes. Not strictly medieval, but the public enjoy seeing different things. For examples of my costumes, visit the Medieval page on my site.

It turned out that I was no good with tarot, so I stuck with rune readings and have been doing readings for the public at these events since about 2001. I often get good feedback from the people that I do the readings for, and many of them come back time and time again . I am often shocked by the accuracy of some of the readings that I give for people when they announce some fact that ties up with the entire reading. Of course, not all readings are as accurate, as there are so many millions of different things that can be going on in people's lives - but the hit rate that I get is enough to inspire me to continue, and for the public to keep coming back.

In order to practice my skills more, I decided to branch out on to the internet, also to try to generate a little more in the way of funds. I do believe readings such as this require skill, mainly in how one ties the runes together to generate a personalised reading, otherwise a computer could simply generate a list of the meanings of the runes - with such wide ranging definitions, these readings could apply to just about anyone, but still leave anyone reading them in the dark as to what it all means.

I often attend events at Cosmeston Medieval Village near Penarth, Cardiff. Events are usually run on bank holidays (the Sunday and Monday) for the public, where I am often seen doing rune readings. I have recently also started attending multiperiod and Viking events in Viking costume (see the medieval page on my main site). Whilst at these events I do not charge a fixed fee for a reading similar to the ones on this website, but instead ask for a donation - the re-enactments are a hobby, and the money I get usually covers my fuel, food and other purchases. If someone asks for a more in-depth reading, then I usually charge a fee.

I am available for face-to-face readings. I charge £40 per hour with a minimum charge of £20, plus mileage at 20p per mile if I travel further than 5 miles. If requesting a reading, I will need to know your approximate location to calculate travel costs. I am based near Cinderford in the Forest of Dean.
The readings I will do on a call out basis will be more complex than the ones on this site, and will involve a 'scatter reading' - usually taking about 20 minutes to perform. Bear in mind that they are more about counseling than predicting the future.
