What is it?
Runescape Quest Tree is a Java application designed to make planning your quest goals that little bit simpler.
How does it help?
Normally, if you want to do a specific quest for any reason - usually the reward item or experience - you have to look up the requirements. Sometimes the quest requires other quests to be done first, so if you're checking on a website you can end up with a long list of requirements just to finish the subquests first - Recipe for Disaster is a good example.
What Runescape Quest Tree does is show all of the requirements of a given quest as a tree. If it has quests that need to be done first, they are also shown along with their requirements. The program will take all of your skill information and any quests you have done and then compare them against that list. It then removes any completed quests or skill requirements that have been met and leaves the things you still have to do - removing the need to scour websites for hours.
It doesn't remove the need for quest help sites, however - it just makes it a bit easier to plan the order in which you do things.
You can either enter your skills manually, or if you're within the top 1 million (showing on the Runescape hiscores page) you can download your skills automatically.
What will it run on?
Due to the fact that Runescape is a Java based game, and therefore runs on almost any platform, Runescape Quest Tree has also been written in Java and has been tested on Windows XP (though should run on Vista), Linux and Mac OS X 10.4.11
Running under windows is a simple matter of double clicking RunescapeQuestTree.jar file.
Linux - you may need to run a command from the console, such as "java -jar RunescapeQuestTree.jar"
Mac OS X, simply run RunescapeQuestTree.app
On Windows and Linux, there are three .XML files that must be kept in the same directory as the main application - DO NOT change these. On the Mac they are hidden inside the application bundle so you don't have to worry about them.
Installation under Windows and Linux is just a case of unzipping the archive to a directory of your choice. The contents of the directory must be left as they are, however, or the program may break if they are changed.
Mac OS, simply copy the application from the .DMG file to wherever you like.

Is it free?
Yes, however it has taken many weeks of programming to write the application and collate all of the quest data (and that will be ongoing as new quests come out). It also costs money to keep this server running and I have to pay for the download bandwidth - so if you like this program and find it useful, I would be grateful for a small donation of say £3-£5. Donations can be left by clicking the link below.
As new quests come out, I will update the questlist.xml file - if ever a new skill comes out again, the skills.xml and questlist.xml files will be updated (it will probably require a change to your character data, too.)
Dependent on how many donations I get, I may try to add extra features.
Your name will also be added to the list of contributors.
You will be redirected to Paypal, where you can pay from a Paypal account or credit/debit card.
