The following pictures are either of costumes that I have made for medieval events, or that are worn by my family and friends.

The green robe (centre row), white monks robe (pictured in bottom left and top centre), mask (bottom left, right and leaves/vines on left) and the costume on the top right were all made by myself. The others were purchased elsewhere. The bottom right picture (My niece, mum and I) has a costume I managed to throw together out of bits of material whilst at a medieval event, after Jamie wanted to join in.

The above pictures, from left to right (first three and fifth taken by members of public): Me standing in the doorway to Jake's Cottage (waiting for some victims for rune readings); Me playing the harp outside the aforementioned building ; Me about to do a reading in the cottage; my friends Marie Elaine, Helen and Sally. They'll probably kill me for putting pictures up like this. Helen, I promise to get a better one of you at the next event!

These pictures are from April/May '07 and show my (uncompleted as of these photos) viking kit that I've made. I'd decided to make the costume for the multiperiod events that Cosmeston sometimes hosts, as it's a little more in-keeping with the rune readings. Most of the material was very cheap (£2/metre) and came from a furnishing fabric supplier. It looks like coarse wool, and still is quite itchy. So far the list of parts goes like this:

Ethically sourced (from culls, not fur trappers) coyote fur for shoulder covering.
Sheepskin hat along with three other fabric hats of various colours to match cloak or trousers/tunic.
Trousers (in blue wool, the ones in the unfinished photos are 14th century style green wool with codpiece).
Cloak, lined in grey and also trimmed and herringbone stitch on hems.
Under kirtle, linen-like cotton with herringbone stitch around hems.
Over kirtle in light blue, with blue/orange tablet woven braid trim on bottom and green/orange trim around cuffs and collar.
Belt in natural (undyed) veg-tan leather, linseed oil softened.
Sword scabbard from painted split-side leather.
Belt-pouch made from leather.
Viking sword (purchased from traders at a Cosmeston event)
Lyre based on sutton-hoo find, made from mahogany (sourced from stair-treads!) and the parts I didn't make came from Touchstone Tonewoods and Hobgoblin (strings & violin tailgut and zither tuning pins, respectively).
Mead horn, made from cow's horn and polished. Loop made from leather.
Shoes made from soling leather (for soles obviously) and natural columbo sides for upper, stained with golden oak leather stain.
Toggle fastenings for boots and pouch made from leather.

I've also made a Viking A-frame tent, photographs will be uploaded in the future.
